Changes on 1 October 2026

Meta starts charging for WhatsApp replies on 1 October.

Right now, replies you send inside the 24-hour chat window are free, whether your team types them or a chatbot sends them. From 1 October 2026, each business phone number gets 1,000 free replies a month, and Meta charges for every reply after that. Utility templates sent inside the chat stop being free on the same day.

What one rescheduled booking costs at Meta's Malaysia rates from 1 October 2026. Meta charges for replies after the first 1,000 each month on each phone number. Utility templates in the chat have no free allowance.

What each message costs, before and after 1 October

Meta charges for each message it delivers, and the price depends on the type of message. These are Meta's rates, in ringgit, for messages to Malaysian numbers.

Sources: Pricing on the WhatsApp Business Platform and Meta's MYR rate card effective 1 October 2026. We checked both on 19 September 2026. The rates apply to messages to Malaysian (+60) numbers on accounts that pay in ringgit. Accounts that pay in another currency use that currency's rate card, and your WhatsApp provider may add its own fee. Utility templates cost less once a business sends more than 150,000 a month. Meta bills replies written by its own Business Agent per token instead.

Who this affects

The change affects any business that sends WhatsApp messages through the WhatsApp Business Platform, which most businesses use through a provider. That covers chatbots, shared team inboxes, and booking or reminder systems.

If your team only uses the free WhatsApp Business app on a phone, this change does not apply to you.

Check that your WhatsApp Business account has a payment method. Meta says that without one, it delivers the first 1,000 replies each month and stops delivering replies after that.

A worked example

We look at a month of your WhatsApp message counts and tell you what the new pricing costs you. It's free, and you don't have to buy anything.

  1. 1

You send us a month of message counts from WhatsApp Manager or your provider's dashboard. We show you where to find them.

  2. 2

We sort them into the types Meta bills and work out your monthly cost at Meta's Malaysia rates, for each of your numbers.

  3. 3

We show you where the cost comes from and what is worth changing. For example, a chatbot that answers in three separate bubbles sends three messages, and Meta counts each one.
